This is the E-book version of the original softcover book published in 2013 by Canyonlands Natural History Association. The book had a second printing in 2017 but has since sold out and is no longer available in print. Comprised mainly of beautiful photos of cliff dwellings, rock art, and artifacts made by a series of ancient cultures who inhabited this area of southeast Utah, it also provides a cultural background for these peoples by an archaeological expert on the region. Â
Although Cedar Mesa was incorporated into the relatively new Bears Ears National Monument when it was established in 2016, its monument status (and the protection that comes with it) was removed during the first Trump administration and then restored after Biden took office in 2021. Its fate during the second Trump administration is uncertain.  Â
Since the cultural information and photos in Cliff Dwellers of Cedar Mesa remain current and relevant, and since my follow-up book, Bears Ears - A Visual Introduction (2024), contains different photos and information, I made Cliff Dwellers available as an E-Book to preserve the images and information of a vulnerable monument in flux.
Available for purchase in the E-books section of this website, $5
