ABOUT THE ARTIST

Don Rommes is a neonatologist by profession and a photographer by avocation. Caring for critically ill babies has given him a profound, personal understanding of the negative effect stress has on us all. He firmly believes that exposure to nature has a positive impact on human health and well-being—a conviction increasingly supported by scientific data. A frequent visitor to southern Utah for its personal restorative effect, Don is also aware of the area's immense potential to contribute to science and culture, and is helping in the effort to preserve some of it for posterity. While southern Utah—specifically the land in and around Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments—has been his primary focus, Don has also explored other natural areas with his usual sensitivity.
